To help you in finding the ideal underrated vacation spot, I consulted my colleagues. They have a wealth of expertise exploring interesting locations. I’m sharing local favorites that may be unfamiliar to you and showcasing other aspects of towns and areas you are already familiar with.
1. San Juan Islands, Washington
The summer is the ideal season to watch orcas swimming around the San Juan Islands. Take a whale-watching cruise to travel in a larger boat, or get into a kayak for possible up-close experiences with these apex creatures.
2. Finger Lakes, New York
Take a road trip through the Finger Lakes region of New York, which is home to eleven long, narrow lakes. There are amazing state parks and a national forest in between; don’t miss the Watkins Glen and Buttermilk Falls waterfalls.
3. Morgan’s Inspiration Island, Texas
It is the aquatic equivalent of Morgan’s Wonderland, a theme park whose goal is to offer a beautiful, clean, and enjoyable setting that is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability, and free from financial and physical limits.
4. Moosehead Lake, Maine
Moosehead Lake is the largest body of water in Maine, spanning 40 miles and 75,000 acres. You can take a guided trip on the steamship Katahdin, kayak around the lake’s edge, or hike around it completely.
5. Coral Gables Venetian Pool, Florida
The Coral Gables Venetian Pool in Miami is a particularly special public pool that was constructed in 1923 out of a granite quarry. Every day in the spring and summer, 820,000 gallons of water are drained from it and refilled with water from an underground aquifer. Savour the old buildings in the Mediterranean style, the grottoes and waterfalls, and the snack bar.
6. Great Basin National Park, Nevada
A treasure of a national park can be found near the end of Route 50 in Nevada, which is regarded as the most isolated road in the United States. Wheeler Peak, which rises 13,063 feet in Great Basin National Park, is the best hiked. Make sure to stay late at night for some amazing astronomy and don’t miss the opportunity to explore the Lehman Caves.
Note: All these places are worth visiting, but they are underrated. If you visit these spots, you will definitely have a great time!
